I'm Sam. I'm taking my GCSEs this year (2024). I had absolutely no motivation to revise for my exams and so, until the 4th of April 2024, 3 weeks before my first exam, I hadn't done any revision. A few days before this date, I had just won three awards for a short film that some other student's and I had put together. This left me with a love and passion for creating videos, and so it hit me, what if I made some educational videos for my GCSEs. I had watched some of the other GCSE videos on youtube but thought that they were all a bit boring, and didn't keep me engaged, so therefore, I wasn't focused and I didn't learn anything. For my videos, I wanted to make something engaging, I wanted it to be fast paced, have cool, flashy editing, decent production quality and make it easy to understand with some simple diagrams. Suddenly, I had some motivation to revise. Making these videos has been key in my revision strategy, I thoughroughly research every topic, I then write a sript, I then narrrate that script, I then create diagrams to match the script, I then rewatch the video over and over again whilst editing. This all helps to reinforce my knowledge through a series of fun, different ways. I am now addicted to revising. I think that it is really important to combine revision with something that you really enjoy, for me, it was making videos. However, it could be anything, If you like making boardgames, make a boardgame for a revision topic. If you like writing songs, write a song about a revision topic. If you like writing books, write a book about a revision topic. By combining revision with an activity that you really enjoy, I believe that the revision becomes many times more beneficial, as you are activley engaged with learning as opposed to just half-heartedly reading a boring textbook or watching a boring video.
